OVEAN GROVE: Shortly before 5:30pm on Saturday 8/27/2022 Ocean Grove Lifeguards were clearing the beach as per common protocol when an individual male subject approximately 35yrs of age swam out 300 yards and refused to clear the water. Due to his behavior and concerns from family members lifeguards made a decision to make contact with him and advise the beach was closed, lifeguards were going off duty and he needed to come in. A patron on the beach called 911 which prompted a ANSWER Team Response from Neptune Township. Due to the nature of the call the USCG was dispatched as well as the NJSP Marine Unit. This was a time sensitive emergency since we were losing light and responders were in the water for nearly two and half hours. Ultimately the situation ended with the NJSP taking the individual into custody from the water with assistance from USCG and OGBP lifeguards. The individual was evaluated later by Neptune Township EMS. The incident was complete at approximately 10:00pm. At this time information is pending. All units and responders on scene were released without incident.
