ATLANTIC CITY: On November 9, 2022, the Texas Avenue School was placed on a shelter-in-place after a student received a message of a potential threat. Officers from the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the school and initiated an investigation.

The investigation was conducted by detectives of the Criminal Investigations Section in coordination with Texas Avenue school administration. The investigation revealed that a former student of the Texas Ave school sent a message to a current student that was interpreted as threatening. The subject and his family were interviewed by law enforcement. The investigation concluded that there is no reason to believe that a threat exists, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

Students and faculty were safe throughout the incident and students were dismissed at their regularly scheduled time. Officers remained stationed at the school throughout the day out of an abundance of caution.
