PERTH AMBOY: On Friday November 18th in the early evening hours, the Perth Amboy Police received notification of a vehicle with Florida registration that entered our City. This vehicle was wanted in connection with an armed robbery that had occurred in Woodbridge Township.

Detectives Frank Cristiano and Jeremy Harris located the vehicle on Market St. traveling East bound. The Detectives called for additional units to respond to the area and provide back up to conduct a high risk motor vehicle stop.

Once the driver was removed from the vehicle and identified he was placed under arrest. The suspect is a 21 year old male that currently is residing in Perth Amboy. Probable cause existed to request a superior Court search warrant for the vehicle. Detectives had reason to believe the driver was also a suspect in a recent armed robbery in Perth Amboy.

Upon completion of the search warrant authorized by a Superior Court Judge further evidence was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle including a 9 mm semi-automatic hand gun. This weapon which was reported stolen out of Florida and loaded with an illegal high capacity magazine.

For those crimes the following charges were authorized for the November 12th Armed Robbery in Perth Amboy.

Robbery with a Firearm

Unlawful Possession of a Weapon

Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose

Possession Prohibited Weapon (high capacity magazine)

Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

Receiving Stolen Property

The suspect was also charged with Armed Robbery and Weapons related offences by the Woodbridge Police Department in connection with the Robbery committed there.

“If not for the diligent work by members of the Perth Amboy and Woodbridge Police Departments this arrest would not have been possible. I am very proud of our Detectives and Police Officers of both departments that were able to take this dangerous suspect off of our streets,” Chief Cattano said.

After being processed in Woodbridge and Perth Amboy the suspect was ultimately transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.
