WEST MILFORD: West Milford Police Chief James DeVore, announce the arrest of Tyler J. Nowinski, of Hewitt, NJ on Friday, January 6, 2023. West Milford Township had experienced a series of motor vehicle burglaries as well as thefts from those vehicles beginning on November 26, 2022, with the most recent occurrence on January 6, 2023. The investigation associated with motor vehicle burglaries in the Upper Greenwood Lake and Hewitt Sections of West Milford had revealed numerous locations which have been affected by the burglary, attempted burglary and/or theft from motor vehicles, during the indicated time.
On Friday, January 6th, an alert resident noticed a suspicious male carrying a skateboard, enter a driveway along Lakeshore Drive and attempt to open the driver’s doors of a vehicle parked in the driveway. West Milford Police were immediately contacted and a description of the actor was provided. Officers located the male a short distance away, who matched the description of the actor from the driveway on Lakeshore Drive. Contact was made with the male subject, who was identified as Nowinski. The investigation led to Nowinski being placed under arrest and transported to the West Milford Police Department for processing.
During the course of the investigation, numerous phone calls, photos and videos were provided, all of which assisted in the arrest of Nowinski. With the investigation still ongoing, Nowinski has been connected and tied to several locations, in which he is currently charged with five counts of Burglary, three counts of Attempted Burglary, two counts of Theft, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, one count of Possession of Prescription Drugs and one count of Criminal Mischief.
Under New Jersey Bail Reform Laws, Nowinski was processed and released on a Summons, pending his appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law.
