NEWARK: Two firefighters died after becoming trapped battling a fire at Port Newark overnight. Around 9:30 last night firefighters were dispatched to the Grande Coaster Eadoirio for multiple cars on fire on the 12th floor of the ship. Approximately seven cars out of the 5,000 on board were on fire.
According to the fire chief, two firefighters were lost backing out of the structure after they evacuated due to intense heat. After an intense search to find the missing firefighters they were found. Firefighters immediately began CPR and were not successful in reviving their fellow firefighters. They were pronounced on scene. Numerous other firefighters were injured in the search and transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment. The identities of the firefighters have not been released yet.
