MANASQUAN INLET: Last night The Coast Guard, and fire departments from Point Beach, Point Boro, Brick, Manasquan, and surrounding towns searched for a missing man after a boat capsized. Early reports indicate that a 23 year old from Brick is missing. The family was coming back into the inlet when their boat was hit by a wave, and crashed into the jetty as it rolled. Bystanders saw coolers, life jackets, and then two people floating in the inlet. One witness stated the two victims that came over the jetty were seconds away from drowning. The victims rescued were weak, and could hardly talk. Bystanders, brought the victims towels as one man was gasping telling everyone his son was still in the water. In total 2 victims were rescued last night, and a search continues for a third victim.
Divers were originally dispatched , but brought back to shore due to the 10 foot waves breaking. The Coast Guard, and fire departments searched throughout the night for the victim with no success. Rumors of his recovery were not accurate, as only a life preserver was brought to shore. Currently a C-130 Hercules, a Coast Guard helicopter, and Manasquan fire department is searching for the missing man. It is believed at this point that the victim is deceased. We will update as we get additional information.
