NEW BRUNSWICK: The nurses of Robert Wood Johnson are still standing strong. Members of USW 4200 are demanding safer patient ratios, better pay, and more affordable benefits. How did Robert Wood Johnson help their cause? They stripped these nurses of their medical benefits putting their lives in danger. Nurses who are battling cancer can no longer get their life saving treatment due to the strike. “Robert Wood Johnson claims to care about public health, yet stripped our families of their benefits.” One of the nurses said.

We are pleading with politicians to pass two bills to make safer staffing ratios across the country. If the hospitals want profit over life and death then the government needs to step up and protect us.” Cries to Governor Phil Murphy have fallen on deaf ears. “Phil Murphy claims we need healthcare reform yet keeps siding with his millionaire buddy’s. You know the same ones that got extra funding from him driving Covid.” Another nurse said. One of the nurses protesting today fell and cut open her arm. She was able to get an ice pack, but can’t get the medical attention she needs due to her insurance being stripped. “I’ve been a nurse here for 38 years and I can’t even get the medical attention I need right now.” She said.

These nurses put their lives on the line day in and day out during the pandemic are now being treated as the villains. They are underpaid, overworked, and unappreciated. Nurses are putting their licenses on the line daily by taking care of more patients then they can handle. “Patients are dying, and nurses are being jailed for mistakes they are making.” One nurse stated as she referenced RaDonda Vaught a nurse who was jailed after making a mistake that killed a patient. RaDonda was a nurse at Vanderbilt University Hosptial in Nashville where she was training and taking care of too many patients. RaDonda made a mistake that ultimately killed her patient and was put in jail, and stripped of her license. “That girl can be any one of us! It’s only a matter of time until it happens in this hospital!”
