TOMS RIVER: We have a major concern on our hands! Bill Lynn who lived on Oak Glen Parkway in Toms River almost his entire life, lost his home recently and came into the camp. Bill works 40 hours a week and I’ve been shuttling him back and forth from the camp to his car in the morning and the back to the camp in the evening.
Bill has some pretty serious health issues from being hit in the head by a baseball at the age of ten which resulted in him having to take heavy medication that years later ruined his kidneys. He is the longest surviving kidney recipient from the hospital that did the surgery.
I received a text from Bill yesterday about 6pm saying he was lost in the woods, so I immediately tried to call him, but his phone went right to voicemail. I sent out a search party from the camp that covered the main trails out of the camp and down the main paths in the park, but to no avail. I then called the Toms River PD and two officers met me at the Winding River Ice Rink. I gave the officers all the details I had, and they were very thorough and sensitive to the issue at hand. The decision was made to call in reinforcements from the volunteer fire department. It was around 11pm when the search party arrived, and spread out. There were about 20 men that started combing the power lines and adjacent woods. They continued to search until about 3 in the morning, but Bill could not be found.
Everyone in the search party was very helpful and sensitive to the situation, calling out Bill’s name every minute or so. When the discussion was made to call off the search, I thanked the men and we all went home to get a little sleep. At 7am I was up again heading down to the camp to organize another search party from the residents of the camp and as of yet there has been no sign of Bill.
If you have some time this afternoon to come down to Winding River Park (the north entrance) to help look for Bill it would be greatly appreciated. The night will be getting cold over the next few nights so time is of the essence. Bill is 64 years old about 5’7” with a grey beard.
You may want to bring a bike to cover more ground, but searching the woods is important too. The police were able to get a signal from Bill’s phone that said it was on the west side of the park. Once you get to the park, if you have any questions you can call: 732-364-0340. Thank you.
Update: As of yet there hasn’t been any or contact or sightings of Bill. Mike from U.S.A.R. Drones Sales came out with an infrared sensing drone and helped locate some hot spots. We are still researching one last site where the drone picked up a heat source. Please continue to pray for Bill’s safe return.
