TOMS RIVER: Roman W. Charkowski of Toms River, a US Navy veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday with his family at the Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Old Freehold Road.
His actual birthday is Monday, October 10, which was declared Roman W. Charkowski Day by Mayor Mo Hill in a proclamation presented during the celebration.
Congressman Chris Smith presented Mr. Charkowski an American Flag which was flown over the U.S. Capitol last week in Roman’s honor.
The celebration was capped off with ride bys from the American Legion Riders, the Elks , Blue Knights, and the Pleasant Plains Fire Company.
The American Legion Riders dismounted their bikes to sing Happy Birthday to Mr. Charkowski
