On Friday, November 18, 2022, New Jersey Transit Police Officer Bryan Richards attended an adoption ceremony at the Essex County Family Courthouse. The ceremony regarded the adoption of a little girl he encountered as an unresponsive newborn in 2020. At the time, she was unconscious and not breathing.⁣

The mother of the child had experienced a medical emergency which led to her delivery in the restroom at Newark Penn Station. Officer Richards, an experienced EMT, responded and performed life-saving CPR which led to the baby’s full recovery. The family members adopting the child invited Officer Richards to the ceremony to demonstrate their gratitude for his efforts.⁣

As police officers, we can handle countless emergencies throughout our careers. These opportunities to make a difference are the moments we never forget.⁣
