On Friday, November 18, 2022, New Jersey Transit Police Officer Bryan Richards attended an adoption ceremony at the Essex County Family Courthouse. The ceremony regarded the adoption of a little girl he encountered as an unresponsive newborn in 2020. At the time, she was unconscious and not breathing.
The mother of the child had experienced a medical emergency which led to her delivery in the restroom at Newark Penn Station. Officer Richards, an experienced EMT, responded and performed life-saving CPR which led to the baby’s full recovery. The family members adopting the child invited Officer Richards to the ceremony to demonstrate their gratitude for his efforts.
As police officers, we can handle countless emergencies throughout our careers. These opportunities to make a difference are the moments we never forget.
