Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office shared the following history on the 9-1-1 system.
On February 16, 1968, 55 years ago today, the very first 9-1-1 call was placed in Alabama. 9-1-1 emergency communications have come a long way since then. The #MCSONJ’s state of the art 9-1-1 Communications Center is the largest shared service in Monmouth County and serves as as a blueprint for the state of NJ. The center answers calls for 48 municipalities, provides dispatch services for 26 police departments, 83 fire companies and 40 first aid squads.
Our highly trained Public Safety Telecommunicators do an exceptional job serving Monmouth County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and deserve much credit for their work in helping to ensure the public safety and health of residents in Monmouth County. #SheriffGolden is proud to be a leader in emergency services and thanks all of our partners for their commitment and dedication to saving lives.
Happy Birthday 9-1-1!
