SEA ISLE CITY: A 43 year old construction worker from Philadelphia was crushed to death yesterday when a balcony collapsed on a mid-rise condo building. The victim has been identified as Jose Pereira.
Mr. Pereira’s body was trapped below a 30 foot concrete slab for several hours before emergency workers could cut through approximately 12 inches of reinforced concrete. The side of the building was deemed unsafe and authorities began evacuating residents.
Mr. Pereira was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:52 p.m., by the Cape May County Forensic Nurse. He was was taken to the Cape May County Medical Examiner’s Office. Mr. Pereira was an employee of Ferguson Contracting, Inc., from Yardley, Pennsylvania.
