State Troopers Assist US Marshals in Hostage Situation on NJTP

Earlier today the NJ State Police were called to assist the US marshals in a high risk stop on the NJTP at the rest area at mile marker 5. The subject was believed to be holding a gun to a woman’s head inside the vehicle. Hostage negotiators from the NJ TEAMS unit worked with the suspect attempting to get him to surrender. The subject’s girlfriend was brought to the scene to attempt to get him to surrender peacefully. After several hours police requested a helicopter to transport someone to Christiana Hospital in Delaware but due to weather conditions, transport was done by ambulance on the ground escorted by US Marshals and NJSP.

We delayed publishing this story for the safety of the officers involved and in the hopes a press release would be issued since there was nothing picked up in the scanner as to the surrender or what the cause was for the hospital needs. We will continue to follow up on this story to get additional information.

Thank you to our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line everyday.
