Elderly Woman Perished in Fire in Belmar/Lake Como Yesterday

BELMAR (LAKE COMO): Belmar Fire Department reports the following: On Wednesday, March 15th at 1601 hrs the Belmar Fire Department was dispatched to 1710 Surf Avenue for a confirmed structure fire with entrapment. Upon the arrival of Engine 3-76 and Chief Pringle, there was heavy fire throughout the 3-story structure. A supply line was established and multiple hand lines along with a deck gun were deployed to the wind driven fire. An attempt was made to enter and locate the entrapped occupant. Unfortunately, due to a well advanced fire, members were unable to enter the structure. Members continued to extinguish the fire (through defensive operations) and protect the surrounding exposures. Extensive overhaul was completed on the structure to ensure that all the hotspots were extinguished.

A big thank you to our mutual aid partners: Avon FD, Spring Lake Heights FD, Spring Lake FD, South Wall FD, Glendola FD, West Belmar FD, Sea Girt FD, Asbury Park FD, Neptune City FD, Wanamassa FD, Manasquan FD, and Neptune FD for all their help. The fire remains under investigation by the Belmar Fire Bureau and Belmar Police Department. All personnel were secured by 2100 hrs.

Our deepest sympathy and continued prayers to the family for their tragic loss.
