NEW BRUNSWICK: Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced that a shooting on Lee Avenue is under investigation. 

Yesterday, March 16, 2023, at approximately 11:07 A.M., authorities responded to the area of Lee Avenue and Delavan Street following the report of a shooting. The victim was transported to the hospital after flagging down a passerby. 

An investigation led by Detective Kevin Schroeck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department determined the victim had been shot by Janai Martinez of New Brunswick. On Thursday, March 16, 2023, Martinez was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. The victim was known to Martinez prior to the incident.
