BERKELEY: On 03/23/2023 at approximately 20:43hrs, The Berkeley Township Police responded to the area of Station Rd and Route 9 for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers observed a two vehicle crash.
Preliminary Investigation revealed that a BMW 750 was travelling North on Route 9 in the area of Station Road. A Toyota Tundra driven by Mr. Vernon Halpin, 43 of Bayville, attempted to enter traffic from the parking lot of 661 Route 9 when it struck the BMW. The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to spin in the roadway and come to a final rest in the parking lot of Bayville Volunteer First Aid Squad located at 660 Route 9. The impact caused the door of the Tundra to open and Halpin was ejected.
The driver of the BMW did not suffer any injuries and refused medical attention. Mr. Halpin had a laceration to his head and complaint of back pain. His injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.
Bayville and Berkeley First Aid Squads immediately responded to the scene to provide medical attention. As a precaution, he was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for further medical evaluation.
The passenger of the Tundra suffered minor non-life threatening injuries. She was also transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for medical attention.
The investigation, led by Ptl. R. Murawski, deemed that the crash was caused by the Tundra entering the roadway and failed to yield to the BMW. Mr. Halpin was issued a summons for 39:3-4 (Unregistered vehicle), 39:3-76.2f (Failure to Wear Seatbelt), and 39:4-97 (Careless Driving). Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Accurate Towing.
