Wanted Suspect in Shooting Arrested

ATLANTIC CITY: The Atlantic City Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect wanted for shooting a man.
An investigation by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit identified John Coles as the suspect responsible for shooting the victim on March 23, 2023. Officers Henderson Cedano and Christopher Campbell located Coles in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue. Coles was arrested without incident.
The shooting incident originated on March 23. At 8:20 AM, patrol officers responded to the 1400 block of Memorial Avenue in reference to gunshots being fired. Officers arrived to find evidence of gunfire, however there was no victim. A check of local hospitals did not locate a shooting victim. Two days later, the victim, 42, from Hillside, NJ, walked into the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
ARRESTED: John Coles, a 52-year-old male from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Coles was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. The public is reminded that charges are mere allegations, and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
