A Linden man has been arrested and is charged for his involvement in a daytime shooting on May 4, 2023.

Michael Yensi, 28, was arrested near his home on Thursday, May 11th without incident following a week long investigation led by the Linden Police Detective Bureau.

On Thursday, May 4, 2023 at about 4:00 p.m. Linden Police Officers responded to the 10 block of N. Wood Ave on reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they are located a 26-year-old Linden resident who suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was treated on scene and transported to Newark University Hospital by Linden Fire Department personnel.

Yensi is charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree aggravated assault, and associated weapons charges. He was committed to the Union County Jail pending a scheduled appearance in Superior Court.

“Each of us has a right to feel safe in our neighborhoods, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to work tirelessly and use every available resource to apprehend the criminals who disrupt that tranquility,” said Police Chief David Hart. “As this arrest demonstrates, a cooperative partnership between the Police and the public can reverse the violent crime trends seen across our state and restore the sense of security we deserve.”

These criminal charges are mere accusations. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
