BRICK: First responders are on scene at Brick Costco for a man who accidentally shot himself. Sources tell me he is a retired law enforcement officer who was concealed carrying, and he was shot in the leg. Shooting reportedly happened near the membership desk, and there’s a hole in the ground. Rumor has it the man’s favorite NFL player is Plaxico Burress.

Brick Police released the following statement:

“On Sunday, January 21st, at approximately 1pm, Brick Township Police responded to 465 Rt 70 (Costco) for an accidental discharge of a firearm. The owner of the firearm sustained a non-life threatening injury. The incident is under investigation.”

    1. It seems some people can’t resist mocking the misfortune of others. Also, it seems providing cover is s.o.p. for police. I think it is important to know the true circumstances as it could be a learning experience for others who carry weapons. I venture a guess that the incident involves carrying an automatic pistol with one in the chamber. I further guess the gun was not properly safe, and the trigger not sitting properly in an approved holster. Wish the person well, the embarrassment will be enormous. We all make mistakes!

      1. First of all there are no “automatic pistols”. There are semi automatic pistols and there is a world of difference regarding how they function. If the individual involved maintained proper trigger finger discipline, was wearing the proper pants, belt and holster it would take a very deliberate and mindful act to discharge the pistol. You are more likely to find prime rib at Costco for $1.00 a pound then for a pistol to just discharge on its own
